Kacie started her career at MedCamps while she was still attending school at Bastrop High School where she graduated in 2011. At 17 years old, Kacie admits that she had no idea what kind of impact camp would have on her life. She worked as a camp counselor for four (4) summers. During those years, Kacie also helped some local families by watching their kids who are living with special needs on the weekends and after school. MedCamps had changed her entire way of life and made her look at things in a new light.
In May 2014, Kacie graduated from Louisiana Tech University with her Associates Degree in General Studies with a concentration in Humanities. She worked one semester as a para-professional at Choudrant High School in the Special Education classroom with some amazing kids. Kacie graduated from University of Louisiana-Monroe in May 2016 with her Bachelors in General Studies with a concentration in Social Science, a minor in History, and a minor in Psychology. In January 2017, Kacie completed her Camp Director certification and now serves as an American Camp Association certified Camp Director for MedCamps.
Kacie often times tells people that she started working at camp when she was in high school because she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children, but she had no idea how much of a difference those same amazing kids would make in her life.
Mendy’s 1st summer to work Med Camps of Louisiana was just last year – Summer of 2015. She had been encouraged by another staff nurse to “try it out”. Well that one summer made a huge impact on Mendy’s life. She already knew many of the campers through the Lincoln Parish School System – where she has worked as a Special Education School Nurse since March 2007. Mendy fell in love with the counselors and the campers and couldn’t wait until Summer of 2016 to experience it all over again.
Mendy earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana in December 1995. She worked briefly in the field of surgery before becoming a school nurse in Morehouse parish for 6 years ……and then in Lincoln Parish for the past 9 years.
Mendy resides in Calhoun, Louisiana, with her husband – Jimmy White, and her children Zach, Noah, and Josie. She is very involved at McClendon Baptist Church in West Monroe, La.
Tina is originally from Minden, Louisiana. She graduated from Northwestern in Shreveport with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing in December of 1998. She worked geriatrics the first six years of her career. She and her family moved to Choudrant, Louisiana in 2004 and she then began working as a special education school nurse for Lincoln Parish.
Tina wanted to continue to work with her students and other children with disabilities throughout the summer and stumbled across Med Camps just a couple of miles from her home. She began working Med Camps in the summer of 2013. The counselors and campers have become like her second family. She is so amazed how Med Camps has changed her life and feels blessed to be a part of the organization. She is looking forward to many more Med Camp summers!
Tina lives in Choudrant, Louisiana with her husband Chad, and children Abby and Alex. She is an active member of Douglas United Methodist Church.
My name’s Landon, but my camp friends called me Sassafrass! I’m very excited to add another summer of Medcamps to my experiences.
